DOSSIER:  'Kathmandu First 48' & Beyond

Your arrival phase sorted

A lot can depend on the first 48 hours.  Therefore be welcomed at Kathmandu International Airport with private vehicle transfer and a hotel of a chosen grade pre-booked.  And then to have on hand the expertise of Himalayan Encounters.  'First 48' (and Beyond) can be booked either together with other programmes,
or as a 'stand alone' service.

For insights into Kathmandu and Bhaktapur see relevant sections of Dossier 'Culture & Customs' (Himalayan Heritage).

'Kathmandu First 48' – Your Choice of Hotel (one or two nights), plus:

Meet & Greet and Airport-Hotel Transfer.  Advice on Kathmandu Orientation including a visit to two of Kathmandu’s best-known landmarks.

Welcome to ‘culture shock’ city!  Isn’t this what drew you here?  The ride to the hotel alone will have you thinking, and it’s a little while before you realise how easy-going the scene really is.

Hotel staff are friendly and helpful and Himalayan Encounters is now ‘on your team’.  Soon you will be ready for first tentative steps into town and we’ll show you it!

‘KTM First 48’ – and Beyond:  Overnight Bhaktapur

Meet & Greet and Airport-Hotel Transfer.  Advice on Kathmandu/Bhaktapur.  Orientation tour with visit to two of Kathmandu plus Bhaktapur’s best-know landmarks.
Including:  One or two nights Kathmandu, then one night Bhaktapur

‘KTM First 48’ can be followed by a fabulous visit to the ancient and still feudal little city of Bhaktapur.  Here your guest house is in the central square and it is an utter delight to be somewhere so enchantingly different to anything that you might have experienced with its pagoda roof-tops and ancient alleyways thrilling the senses.

‘FIRST 48’ SERVICE NOT REQUIRED?
No problem.  If you decide that our ‘First 48’ Service is not required then be assured anyway of a warm welcome when we meet.

SEE BOX NEXT PAGE FOR MORE DETAILS.

‘KTM First 48’ – and Beyond:  Overnight Nagarkot

Meet and Transfer to your Choice of Kathmandu Hotel (one or two nights), advice on Kathmandu Orientation with visit to two of Kathmandu’s best-known landmarks – as per ‘First 48’ - then visit to Nagarkot’s mountains views from the Valley Rim.

This is the famous panorama….more than 300 kms East to West from distant Everest to distant Annapurnas.  The Fort Hotel or the more budget Country Villa are an excellent ‘either/or’ choice of accommodation.

‘KTM First 48’ – and Beyond:  Overnight Dhulikhel

Meet and Transfer to your Choice of Kathmandu Hotel (one or two nights), advice on Kathmandu Orientation with visit to two of Kathmandu’s best-known landmarks, then visit to Dhulikhel, the mountain resort to rival Nagarkot but with a village ambiance nearby.  Again a straight choice of differently graded accommodation.

‘KTM First 48’ – and Beyond: Valley Rim Trek & Himalayan Skylines.

After ‘First 48’ you leave for the edge of the Valley to then hike in the countryside.  There is a charming Farm House stay – the simplicity is the charm.  There is an optional second night at Nagarkot.  Together these offer wonderful impressions of Nepal pastoral life and the prospect of great mountain views.

‘KTM First 48 ‘ - and beyond: . . . . . . . to Pokhara, Trisuli Centre (rafting), Bandipur, Nuwakot  and Chitwan.

The following page deals with the limited options for onward road and domestic air travel from Kathmandu.  Road travel between any of these points invariably takes most of a day….  The scenery is delightful and the road-side theatre is educational!   Also see Dossiers on this website; eg ‘Rural Heritage’ and ‘Jungle Safari (Chitwan)’.
